Accommodation during the Festival

For those based in and around London, Berkhamsted could not be easier to get to by train from London’s Euston station (the journey is usually just thirty minutes). However, if you prefer to make a “getaway” of the Festival, perhaps one night or the entire duration, Berkhamsted offers a variety of local accommodation options from historic coaching inns to countryside hotels.

Below we highlight two trusted options. Both may offer a discount for festival-goers: please email or telephone the hotel to check rather than go immediately to any central online booking system (hotel contact details below).

The King’s Arms Hotel

The King’s Arms is centrally located in Berkhamsted’s vibrant High Street and is perfectly positioned for all Festival events. This charming 18th-century coaching inn was a favourite haunt of Graham Greene himself and today offers stylish boutique rooms, a lively bar and an open-kitchen restaurant. For car parking please note that the car-park of the nearby Penny Farthing Hotel (see below), also on the High Street and a partner/companion hotel, is open (and free) to guests of The Kings Arms.

The Penny Farthing Hotel

The Penny Farthing is a quiet and stylish hotel just a five-minute walk from all the key Festival events. The hotel is named in honour of local cycling hero Thomas Stevens (1854-1935) who, in 1884, pedalled, pushed and carried his penny farthing 4,000 miles in making the first successful coast-to-coast bicycle trip across America. The Penny Farthing shares facilities with its partner hotel The King’s Arms (see above) and offers convenient free and private parking.
