A Poem and Hope for the New Year

Fr. Gerard Garrigan, from St. Louis Monastery, Missouri has sent this poem dedicated to Graham Greene. May I take this opportunity to wish everyone a better New Year in the hope that, in time, the hardships and sufferings that 2020 has brought to us all will begin to fade from our memories.

WHAT COLOR IS LIFE?

(To Graham Greene)

Life is neither black nor white

It is improbably quite, quite Greene

What would this, could this mean

In this God’s shadowland below

Where our eyes do but dimly see

It means life is all the shades of grace

Infinite in their multitudinous array

Which we will finally clearly see

Not here but above one blessed day
