STAYING IN BERKHAMSTED AND THE SURROUNDS DURING THE FESTIVAL

The hotel and bed and breakfast accommodation available in Berkhamsted Town itself is listed below. The following two hotels, The King’s Arms and The Pennyfarthing, both part of Oakman Inns, will be offering concessionary rates of 10% for guests coming to events organised by The Graham Greene Birthplace Trust. These are exclusive rates, so please state that you are coming to the Festival or an event organised by the Trust.

The Kings Arms

The Kings Arms is centrally located in Berkhamsted’s buzzing high street and is perfectly located for all Graham Greene events.

The hotel is an 18th Century Coaching-Inn and was a favourite place of Graham Greene, where inspirations of the author can be seen throughout the boutique style bedrooms. There is a restaurant and bar located on site where guests can enjoy watching their food being prepared in our open kitchens and enjoy a drink around the open fireplace.

Visitors should note that there is a lively atmosphere at weekends in the vicinity of this hotel.

Please note rooms located toward the back of the hotel may be quieter.

The Pennyfarthing

The Pennyfarthing is set back from Berkhamsted’s high street offering no more than a five minutes’ walk from the Graham Greene venues. The hotel dates back to the 16th century, and has been named in honour of Berkhamsted’s Thomas Stevens who was the first man to cycle the world on a Penny Farthing bicycle in the 1800s. The hotel offers stylish bedrooms and the use of The Kings Arms restaurant and bar.

Please note there is no parking onsite at The Kings Arms Hotel. However the private parking facilities at The Pennyfarthing Hotel are available for The Kings Arms guests on a first come first served basis. Alternatively there is 24-hour parking available nearby.
