Following closely on the heels of Andrei Gorzo’s new Greene-themed book What I Learned from Graham Greene: A Family History, which we recently flagged, comes another new publication on Greene: In Search of a Hero: Tragic Irony in Graham Greene’s Fiction by Yuliya Kazanova, which resituates Greene’s work within the European intellectual landscape of the twentieth century.

Yuliya, who holds a PhD from Leeds and has taught both there and at the University of Groningen, revisits Greene’s plays, film scripts and overlooked (and some suppressed) fiction to show how he responded to the twentieth century’s crisis of humanism and, in doing so, managed to capture so profoundly the ‘human condition’ of his era.

In Search of a Hero is published by White Rose University Press and can be purchased via this link.

Many congratulations to Yuliya on a major contribution to Greene studies.
