A very significant milestone will be achieved this Autumn with the publication of a single-volume biography of Graham Greene by his non-related namesake Professor Richard Greene of Toronto University. Most will agree that, thus far, Graham Greene has not been well served by his biographers and that a concise, dispassionate narrative of the writer’s life and his work is long overdue. On this occasion Richard Greene (left) has had the advantage of receiving the full backing and cooperation of the Greene family.
Russian Roulette: The Life and Times of Graham Greene will be published on 3 September in the UK and in the US as The Unquiet Englishman: A Life of Graham Greene on 11 November 2020. Richard has agreed to be interviewed by Mike Hill, editor of the Trust’s magazine A Sort of Newsletter, and a transcript will appear on this website on 3 September to coincide with and to celebrate this important event.
Regrettably, Richard Greene was also due to speak at the 2020 Festival which unfortunately has had to be cancelled owing to the coronavirus pandemic. However, he hopes to be able to visit the UK in late October when there may be an opportunity to hear him talk about his important new book.
There will be more news on this topic as and when it becomes available.
